Dr. Beth Kiratu
Dr. Beth Kiratu is the Acting Academic Program Lead in the Department of Data Science at the Open University of Kenya. She holds a Doctorate in Pure Mathematics from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, with a dissertation titled “On Weyl’s Spectrum for Some Classes of Operators in Hilbert Spaces.” With over 12 years of teaching experience at the university level, Dr. Kiratu is a dedicated mathematics lecturer. Her passion for mathematics education has driven her involvement in curriculum development at both undergraduate and master’s levels.
Dr. Kiratu is a strong advocate for teaching mathematics in a virtual learning environment, which led to her involvement with the African STACK leadership team. This team oversees the implementation of the System for Teaching and Assessment using a Computer Kernel (STACK), a Moodle-based tool that facilitates the virtual teaching and assessment of STEM courses.
Believing firmly in the power of collaborative research, Dr. Kiratu holds leadership positions in two professional mathematical bodies in the region: the Kenyan Mathematical Society (KMS) and the Kenyan Women in Mathematical Society Association (KWIMSA).
Recognizing the impact of digital technology advancements on academia, Dr. Kiratu emphasizes the need for consultations on leveraging artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
